Power BI Connector for SAP is built for modern SAP deployments. Here’s what we officially support today.
SAP S/4HANA #
The connector works across all S/4HANA deployment options:
- S/4HANA On-Premise — direct integration via SAP Cloud Connector.
- S/4HANA Private Cloud (RISE with SAP) — direct integration via SAP Cloud Connector.
- S/4HANA Public Cloud — integration via SAP Communication Arrangements (a different setup path from on-premise).
OData protocols #
The connector reads SAP data over OData:
- OData V2 — supported across all S/4HANA variants.
- OData V4 — supported where SAP publishes V4 services (S/4HANA 2023 and newer). Both catalogs are searched, and V4 services show a dedicated badge in the connector’s Add Service picker.
The connector detects which protocol each SAP service uses and reads accordingly, so you don’t need to pick a version.
What the connector needs from your environment #
- SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP) subaccount — the connector runs on BTP; each customer receives their own subscription in their own subaccount.
- SAP Destination Service — used to configure connectivity between the connector and your S/4HANA backend.
- SAP Cloud Connector — required only for On-Premise and Private Cloud deployments to establish a secure tunnel from BTP into your SAP landscape.
Other SAP systems (ECC, BW, custom) #
Interested in connecting SAP ECC or SAP BW / BW/4HANA? Get in touch — we evaluate non‑S/4HANA configurations case-by-case, and compatibility depends on which OData services your SAP system publishes.
Custom CDS-view services (services SAP exposes under ScopedServiceCollection in the OData V2 catalog) are not currently discoverable by the connector. For custom data-model exposure, contact us so we can review your model together.
