Installation Guide

2 min read

Power BI Connector for SAP is distributed through the SAP Store and runs on SAP BTP. Installation comes in two parts that an administrator typically completes together:

  1. Subscribe and configure on BTP — subscribe your BTP subaccount to the connector, assign role collections to end users, and create the SAP destination. See Installation Guide: Multi-Tenant.
  2. Configure the SAP backend (on-premise only) — if your S/4HANA, ECC, or other SAP system runs on-premise, the SAP system itself needs to be configured to expose OData services to the connector. See On-Premise SAP Configuration.

For S/4HANA Public Cloud or any SAP system reachable from BTP over the public internet, only the Multi-Tenant guide is needed.

What you’ll need before installing #

  • An SAP BTP subaccount where you have Subaccount Administrator permissions.
  • An identity provider trusted by your BTP subaccount (SAP IAS or a corporate IdP) so users can sign in with their corporate credentials.
  • An SAP destination configured against the SAP system you want to read from. Power BI Connector for SAP reads SAP OData services through this destination.
  • (On-premise only) Administrative access to the SAP system (SU01, PFCG, /IWFND/MAINT_SERVICE), plus Cloud Connector configured between BTP and the SAP backend.

What happens after installation #

Once the subscription is active, role collections are assigned, and your destination is configured (and verified for on-premise installs), sign in at the connector URL. You land on the Data Sources page. From there, follow the Quickstart to mint an access token, create a data source, and connect Power BI Desktop.

Pages in this section #

  • Installation Guide: Multi-Tenant — BTP subscription, role collections, destination.
  • On-Premise SAP Configuration — SAP backend setup (PFCG, technical user, OData services).
  • Application Permissions Setup — assigning role collections to end users.
