Edit a Data Source

1 min read

You can change the name, description, sharing, services, fields, and filters of a data source you own. Shared users see the same form in a read-only view.

Who can edit

  • The owner of the data source can change everything on the form.
  • Users it has been shared with can open the form to inspect the configuration but cannot save changes.
  • To hand ownership over to a colleague, see Transfer data source ownership.

Open the editor #

On Data Sources, find the row you want to change. Two ways to open it:

  • Click the row to open the editor directly.
  • Open the row’s Actions menu and select Edit. The menu also exposes Clone, Delete, Share, Transfer ownership, and Preview ERD.

Make your changes #

The page title switches to Edit Data Source. Apart from the title, the form is identical to the one used when creating a data source, and the existing values are pre-filled.

You can:

  • Rename the data source or update its description.
  • Add or remove SAP services. Removing a service drops every entity, field, and filter that belonged to it.
  • Pick or unpick fields on an entity.
  • Adjust the row filter — see Filter rows.
  • Add or remove users in Shared with. Same rules as creation: each entry is an email address; recipients get read-only access.

Save or discard #

Select Save to commit. If you navigate away with unsaved edits, the app asks you to confirm before discarding them.

The URL column on the list never changes when you edit a data source. Power BI reports that already use the URL keep working — they just see the new selection on the next refresh.
